Navigation Studio
Ages 12-14

How is Navigation studio at Acton Academy Kalispell different?

Academically in the Navigation Studio learners are focusing on more rigorous work: with higher level writing requirements, developing different methods of effective communication and strong presentation skills. They delve into deep works of classical literature and higher levels of math and algebra. Historical and scientific learning involves research, discussion, and presentation. Critical thinking skills are honed through daily Socratic discussions where taking a stand on an intellectual or moral subject and defending your position is required.

Navigation studio and the socratic method

Navigators gain confidence through an encouraging environment where they communicate their own ideas persuasively, and don’t just go with the flow. As learners circle around for daily Socratic Discussions, Navigators learn that their thoughts and ideas matter and are respected. They understand how to disagree appropriately, defend their views, plus give and take criticism with grace and respect.

Servant Leadership

At Acton, Navigators often help younger ones with their academics. Peer to peer learning has the best results!

How do navigators take responsibility for their education and future?

Navigators set appropriate goals in their challenge zone, are held accountable by their peers, and have clear pleasant or undesirable outcomes from their choices. How they spend their time, and what they accomplish earns them freedoms and participation in excursions, plus higher levels of leadership in the studio.

In Navigation Studio, learners become self-motivated leaders who are driven to achieve and find what they are passionate about learning and who they want to become. This is truly a place of learning, community, and growth for success in life!
